Option to face Qatar
Davies (hamstring) is an option for Thursday's match against Qatar, according to manager Jesse Marsch, per Joshua Kloke of The Athletic. "[Alphonso] has been in training this week. Alphonso is looking really good, right? And so it's just a matter of 'OK, what kind of game is it, what kind of moment is it, and how do we feel Alphonso can contribute right now?' But he's ready, he'll be available."
Analysis: Davies is no longer an injury concern for Thursday, as the Bayern defender has been cleared to play against Qatar. This is a major addition back to the team as they eye a win after their opening draw. However, there seems to be some uncertainty around how much he will play, potentially starting off the bench to be cautious. Either way, the team will be happy to have their star player back fit.
Still in return to play process
Davies (hamstring) remains in the return to play process while the rest of the Canada squad has moved to full training, three days out from Thursday's clash against Qatar, according to Joshua Kloke from The Athletic.
Analysis: Davies missed the opening group stage fixture against Bosnia and Herzegovina and continues to work his way back from the hamstring issue, with his availability for Thursday's match still uncertain. The Bayern Munich left-back had been described as almost completely healed following an MRI scan, giving some hope of a return during the group stage. Richie Laryea has been covering at left-back in his absence, but getting Davies back on the pitch would represent a significant boost for a Canadian side that relies heavily on his pace and attacking output down the left flank.
